The Paimio Sanatorium, designed by Alvar and Aino Aalto, is renowned not only for its architecture but also for the vibrant community it once fostered, where everyday life and celebration were closely intertwined.
The “Everyday Life and Festivities at the Sanatorium” tour transports visitors back in time, highlighting how the sanatorium was a place of both healthcare and joyful community traditions.
This tour showcases how the Aaltos’ designs enhanced festive experiences: spacious areas, abundant natural light, and carefully chosen details created a special atmosphere for celebrations. Guests will also see how the peaceful patient rooms, shared areas, and staff accommodations provided a balanced, adaptable environment for both patient recovery and staff life. Throughout the tour, the guide will explain how Aalto’s architecture supported daily routines and created a comfortable and functional space.
The tour lasts 60 minutes, after which visitors may explore an exhibition on the history of the sanatorium.
Please note: The tour is held only in Finnish.
