Himmeli Artist Eija Koski Comes to Paimio Sanatorium to Lead a Himmeli Workshop on Saturday, December 7!

In this workshop, participants will create the Paimio Spirit himmeli, a unique, elongated design crafted by Eija specifically for this event. Under her guidance, attendees can complete the full himmeli or assemble just a portion and finish it in their own style. Eija’s home-grown rye straws will be hand-cut by each participant. The course is suitable for both beginners and those who have previous experience with himmeli making.

Eija Koski is a renowned himmeli artist who has hosted exhibitions and workshops worldwide. She has written four books on himmelis: two in Finnish, one in Swedish, and one in German. These works have also been translated into English, Japanese, and Spanish.

Himmelis are intricate, three-dimensional geometric structures that require patience and tranquility to create. “I am fascinated by the Finnish himmeli tradition and history. Creating them demands time, peace, and a meditative dedication to the project,” Koski describes.
