Paimio Sanatorium Foundation develops and presents a program of events, workshops, lectures, and exhibitions for the public.

In collaboration with partners, the Sanatorium is creating a series of inclusive events exploring the visionary design ethos of Alvar and Aino Aalto, with a specific focus on the architecture of care. Program foster a deeper appreciation for the Aaltos’ legacy and to scale and popularize the rich content of the Spirit of Paimio Conference making it widely accessible and engaging for diverse audiences including the local community.

Summer Residency Program


Paimio Sanatorium summer residency program 2024 is for the emerging designers, architects, artists, musicians and writers, globally, providing them with the opportunity to immerse themselves in the iconic modernist masterpiece.

Overall there is 40 two weeks residencies spreading from mid May to end of September. Residency consists of accommodation in shared two bed room apartment and own work space in iconic sanatorium building. There is also a co-working space.

During residency Residency Diaries are published in Sanatorium’s own media platforms. Residence Diaries are editorial material focusing on the expertise of these talented individuals to gain insights into the latest trends, research, and opinions in their respective fields. The knowledge acquired will be integrated into our conferences, creating a dynamic exchange that benefits both the residents and our ongoing initiatives.

Enrollment starts in March.
